Devin Boyer wins "Best Undergraduate Student Oral Presentation" at the 2013 NWA Annual Meeting
Meteorology senior, Devin Boyer, attended the National Weather Association's 2013 Annual Meeting and walked away with quite an honor.
Devin won the NWA's "Best Undergraduate Student Oral Presentation" for his talk titled Tested with Fire: Successes and Challenges of a Student-Run Forecasting Operation. His talk detailed how the Campus Weather Service handles social media coverage. It also covered how the newly-formed Live Broadcast Team within the Campus Weather Service works and some of the challenges involved in running the live shows. Over the past few years, the Penn State Campus Weather Service has seen great growth and change to become a more modern forecasting organization. Boyer felt that other student forecasting organizations could learn from what we have done or have had difficulties with and decided to make this a key part of his talk.
The award was presented at a luncheon held in conjunction with the annual meeting in Charleston, SC on October 16. The President of the NWA awards each recipient with a congratulatory letter, a cash stipend and a complimentary NWA membership for the following year. Congratulations on this great achievement Devin!
