Undergraduate Students (B.S. Degree)
A diverse and rigorous program that's produced top-notch graduates for 75+ years. Yes, we’re bragging a bit, but ask around!
Research opportunities that could pair you with a faculty member and lead to publishing a paper in a professional journal as an undergraduate!
A small department with a family atmosphere plus all the advantages that come with a big university. You'll have plenty of chances to get to know other students and faculty right from the start with TEEMS-- a unique off-site orientation program for freshmen entering the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences.
A vast alumni base -- the department has awarded more than 4000 degrees, so our alumni work in all sectors of the atmospheric sciences and beyond. You'll have many opportunities to network with other Penn Staters who are leaders in the field, enhancing your chances of landing a job or internship. Now that’s a leg up!
“Real world” experience through student organizations such as Campus Weather Service where you'll prepare forecasts for newspapers, radio stations and the web, as well as videos in the Chromakey. Also join the Storm Chase Club and chase storms for part of your summer -- safely and responsibly of course!
Opportunity to attend professional conferences hosted by the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. A large contingent of our undergraduate students attend these meetings each year. What an experience!
An excellent employment outlook -- we proudly boast that approximately 90% of our undergraduates since 2012 are gainfully employed, most in science-related careers. Click on the pie chart to the right for a bit more information about the companies that employ our students after they graduate.
If you have a passion for weather, climate, or the environment, as well as strong math and physics skills, we hope you will apply!
