Paul Markowski, Professor, Department of Meteorology, has received the 2013 National Weather Association T. Theodore Fujita Research Achievement Award.  Paul was chosen for the award for incisive research directly applicable to operational forecasting which has allowed significant advances in our understanding and forecasting tornadic and nontornadic thunderstorm environments.

Tetsuya Theodore "Ted" Fujita (1920-1998) was a prominent Japanese-American severe storms researcher. His research at the University of Chicago on severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes and typhoons revolutionized knowledge of each.

This award is presented to an NWA member whose research has made a significant contribution to operational meteorology. The Research Achievement Award was named in honor of Dr. T. Theodore Fujita in the year 2000. Dr. Fujita was a charter member and the first to be awarded the Research Achievement Award.
