About the Harold K.
Schilling Memorial Lectureship
The
Harold K. Schilling Memorial Lecture on Science, Technology, and
Society focuses on the connection among ethics, science, technology,
and the human condition, and honors the memory of Dr. Schilling,
physicist, professor, and former dean of the Graduate School at Penn
State. Dr. Schilling was also president of the American Association of
Physics Teachers (1948–49). His physics research included work on
supersonic signaling for the Office of Scientific Research and
Development during World War II, and in his later years, he turned to
the connection between science and religion.
The Harold K. Schilling Memorial Lectureship lectures are part of the "Integrating Development and Climate Change Ethics" conference, which is made possible by support from the College of the Liberal Arts; the Environment and Natural Resources Institute; the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment; the Science, Technology, and Society Program; the Social Science Research Institute; the Harold K. Schilling Memorial Lectureship; and a generous grant from the Worldwide Universities Network. Rock Ethics Institute events are also made possible with the support of a generous gift from Doug and Julie Rock
The conference is free and open to the public; registration is not required.
